Abstract
This panel examines the way longstanding genealogies of race, the body, and politics have relied on particular distributions, such as those of part and whole, matter and form, and stasis and movement —that have issued from power and sedimented into contemporary conditions of knowledge. The logics of colonial, racialized and gendered techniques are continually reproducing — able to endure ruptures in time, as well as propagating across forms of disciplinary knowledge — rendering subjects differentially malleable along axes of the human/animal, vital/synthetic, and political/domestic. While attending to the mutation of these gradients across a number of sites — including the arts, the biosciences, the courtroom, and economic models — the presenters in this panel approach “minor aesthetics” or “forms of life” as overlooked currents of action that invite, and work through, dimensions of the human cast by disfiguring politics.
