Titre : Open Source Software: An Approach to Mitigating Risk in Application Ecosystems
Summary : One of the most important aspects of Open Source Software (OSS) is that it provides pre-written functionality that can freely and simply be plugged into software projects resulting in faster development and delivery times. There are problems though. Since anyone can contribute to existing OSS projects or create their own projects there is minimal to no governance of that software. Much of the software is buggy or contains vulnerabilities that are highly exposed to exploits. There is also no assurance that the software is only doing what it was intended to do. Maintenance and testing activities are relatively unknown and documentation for many OSS projects lack the necessary detail to help fully understand the software. These and other issues are causing end user applications to assume tremendous security and stability risks.
Bio : Full-stack software engineer currently working in DevSecOps with a focus on the use of automation and innovation to help developers produce better quality, more resilient, secure software. Broad and deep understanding of software technologies, development tools, practices and processes with expertise in designing and building secure scalable back-ends (REST APIs) against relational and NoSQL databases, web-based front-ends with modern, highly interactive and responsive Ajax UIs, and CI/CD pipeline automation.
